Liberals at Lollapalooza

I recently attended Chicago's Lollapalooza music festival, where musicians such as Eminem, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Muse, Cee Lo, Foster the People, Kid Cudi, Noah and the Whale, Deadmau5, and The Cars entertained an estimated 270,000 people over three days. My observations included a lot of hipsters and hippies, marijuana, alcohol, and people having a great time. I was only a participant of the latter, but also noticed a lot of the entertainers expressing their political views. Coldplay's Chris Martin, husband to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, introduced "Us Against The World" by describing it as a love song about an affair between right-wing Fox News pundit Bill O'Reilly and Sarah Palin, saying that he hoped their romance would help them see the world in a different way.

As I walked around Grant Park near downtown Chicago, there was a section -- a very liberal section that was all about "green" stuff and helping the environment and whatnot, as well as helping impoverished people around the world. There was a huge urge to recycle all recyclable materials. People who wanted a free t-shirt were given a large green bag. Once they came back with a filled bag of cans, bottles, and plastic they received a free Lollapalooza t-shirt.
Rounding out the festival was Deadmau5, an electric/dubstep remix musician. I had never heard of him before, but it was pretty awesome. My favorite moment was when he remixed the classic Bill O'Reilly freak out (Below).
In all Lollapalooza was one of the greatest experiences of my life. The liberal references were a plus, but in all it was one hell of a weekend. If you ever get an opportunity to attend .... DO IT!
